It's garbage that the rugby team doesn't get more coverage in this newspaper. When I look at the sports pages all I see is articles about all these teams (football, soccer, hockey, the list goes on) that, quite frankly, suck. Yet our rugby team is undefeated, and we are lucky if we get more than a little two paragraph article. It's not like we have an undefeated record because we play a bunch of nobies. Some of the teams we have beaten this year include michigan state, purdue, and notre dame. I would bet money that the BGSU football team wouldn't beat any of these schools' football teams. I speculate that rugby is a club sport here at BGSU, rather than a varsity sport, because rugby is a relatively unkown sport in America. However, ask yourself, who does a better job of representing the university: teams that get beat a lot (football, hockey, soccer), or a team that is undefeated on the season (rugby)? We wear a falcon on our jerseys just like any varsity sport, and our accomplishments are remarkable, yet it is as if we are shunned away into a corner.

Plus with article titles like "Falcons blow early lead, fall to No. 25 Missouri" and "Final score not the only thing that didn't go right for BG in loss to Missouri" it seems like our writers are more in favor of Missouri than the school they attend. When students read that sort of thing it doesn't help encourage support for our team. For every good thing that is written their is 3 negative. Who is paying these people anyway? I sure hope the university isn't because I'm sure there is better out there for any sort of money.

For example, I was thinking it would be great to have a monthly (or something? weekly?) feminist column, something perhaps written by a revolving group of self-identified feminist students, faculty and staff at BGSU. Would there be any interest in this type of column? The campus in general isn't a particularly women- or feminist-friendly space, and I think for those students who are interested in feminist issues, it'd be a welcome source of discussion and information (and could probably get the paper some good PR, if word got out on the feminist blogosphere that BG had a feminist column). Who should one talk to? Would it be possible to have a group-authored column, instead of just one individual (so that instead of citing Katie So-and-so, it'd list GWC or BG Feminists or whoever)?
