I tell ya, if it is not one thing, it's another. The old saying is true, if you want something done right, you'd better do it yourself. I found a free Joomla template that was close to what I needed, and modified it from there. I should have coded it all from scratch. When you use Adblock Plus or similar, the top banner position collapses, and the background image, which has the black bar in it, moves down the page. Click to enlarge.

I have no quick fix for this. What needs to be done is Joomla needs to be put in the same template code that I am using for Movable Type. Sadly, this same template is being used by the Events Calendar, too. This needs to be fixed pronto. Thanks to Chase for bringing this to my attention.

Mobile Template for Events

photo.jpgWith a bit of help from Chase, the mobile phone template for our calendar is done. As stated earlier, we are using Helios for our calendars, and it is great that it supports a mobile template. However, they are pretty plain jane.

Moving into Production Mode

Alternate title: We are dedicated!

And we are back. It has been a few days since the last update to the Dev blog, but for good reason. We are moving from development into production, and we need a dedicated server for that.

To keep cost down during the development, we used a shared host, Host Monster. They are a great choice and I highly recommend them for those who do not require intense database activity. However we have Movable Type, Joomla and Helios Calendar all running.
The first time we mentioned our calendars was in Chase's Hello, World post. We will have an events calendar for BG Views, but that is not the topic of this post. We are providing a number of things for BGSU Parent and Family Programs, one of them is an events calendar. We are managing all BG Views calendars in Helios, which I have worked with for multiple clients, and love the software.

Their calendar is done and ready to use. Now all I need to do is train them on how to use it, and we will be all set. Like much of the work on BG Views, I could not have gotten this calendar up and running as quickly if it were not for Chase (thanks).
