A couple weeks ago I found out that email I have sent from bgviews.com (Google Apps for Domains) email is not reaching bgsu.edu email addresses, specifically people like our office manager, my boss, you know, people who I need to be emailing.

So I opened an ITS ticket. BGSU's Symantec Brightmail Gateway was not quarantining the email, but it surely was not getting delivered, as evident when I emailed the tech while on the phone and he never got my email.

The second, separate issue comes from the automated emails that Movable Type sends out when someone registers on our site. The email is for verification purposes, to prevent spam. These emails are not getting delivered to bgsu.edu email addresses either, including my own. If I look at the Unverified accounts in MT, most of them have bgsu.edu email accounts.

After talking to our host, Liquid Web, I have found out via an exim log file that the automated emails are indeed sent, and the BGSU email server is accepting them, but they are not getting delivered, as I tried twice today to my bgsu.edu email address.

This is a major problem, as our main user base are BGSU students and staff. So I am back to talking to ITS support and hopefully an email administrator about this problem. You can hit the jump to see the relevant mail server log.

BGSU RSS Facebook App
Recently BGSU has released an RSS Reader Facebook App. I have been taking a look from the sidelines, as Anthony Fontana has kept me in the loop. They were great to include our RSS feeds in the app, and I am very greatful for that. Right now it include the main feed for BG News and our Breaking News feed.

They want to include our other feeds, such as from our Blog Network, which will happen soon. The issue is that I need to create feeds in the ancient RSS format (our feeds are Atom feeds). This is not a big hurtle, I just need to get a RSS template setup in Movable Type, which will be soon.  I will be sure to update here once it is all set.
