Mobile Template Updated, Ready
Have not had a lot of time to blog, but have been getting a lot done for BG Views. One thing that I have completed is the Mobile template. This template takes cues from the iPhone obviously but it works on any mobile device, I am not using any fancy JavaScript, for example.
The iPhone/iPod Touch can take advantage of a lot of really nice CSS though, CSS3 and WebKit specifc stuff is really nice. I would like to add the "page turn" animation in but am not sure how to do that on multi-page sites yet. (It is pretty easy if everything is contained inside of one file as it just uses nested Lists.)
I have added touch-to-email, so the index pages have a Contact button on them. I have also added touch-to-call in the footer, which has numbers for our newsroom and advertising department. I also added Google Maps integration into the footer. I talked earlier how the marker for BG News/ BG Views needs updated. That is a bit annoying.
Finally I have added author byline and comments to the mobile template. Accepting comments on the mobile site is going to be a challenge for another day. Adding search should not be that hard, but I will have to create a seperate search template and results template. Again, something else for another day.
I also signed up with a company that tracks mobile analytics, as it is a different beast than tracking stats from desktops. Displaying banner advertisements is also a bit different on a mobile site.
