Moving into Production Mode

Alternate title: We are dedicated!

And we are back. It has been a few days since the last update to the Dev blog, but for good reason. We are moving from development into production, and we need a dedicated server for that.

To keep cost down during the development, we used a shared host, Host Monster. They are a great choice and I highly recommend them for those who do not require intense database activity. However we have Movable Type, Joomla and Helios Calendar all running.
I looked around at a few places, and settled on the host that I know best. First I looked at Strangecode, Beau Smith's company, but he did not have any dedicated servers, but some nice servers going in at the end of February.

heroicsupport.jpgI have worked with SoftLayer and Liquid Web in the past, and decided on Liquid Web, because I am more familiar with their tech support, and their fully managed servers, even dedicated ones. And so the move is complete, I am just waiting for mtvU to point the subdomains such as blogs.bgviews.com to our new IP address.

Movable Type moved over with little fuss. I had an issue with one specific Template Module not rebuilding, but I figured out a workaround. Joomla took a bit of work, especially since we are using jReviews. One of our two Helios Calendar installs still has some big errors, so I need to figure that out yet.

You may also notice the Dev Blog is now at a different location, and that we have a new "hub" here at bgviewsnetwork.com. Soon this blog will look like the rest of the site, too. I just have not had the time to get to that yet.

Using Facebook Connect on the new domain, and new dedicated server.

Finally the Dev blog is in the style of the rest of the site.

Ya there is alot to know about dedicated servers. And sometimes it's hard to find good information on the web. Thanks for the good input.
